Cheng Shiu University actively responds to global climate governance trends and takes a significant step towards greenhouse gas emission management.

Global warming has led to extreme climate changes, prompting the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to call for achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050.

Cheng Shiu University, committed to campus sustainability, has taken the initiative to conduct a carbon inventory, identifying sources of greenhouse gas emissions and exploring relevant measures to reduce carbon emissions based on emission data. The results of this inventory will serve as a reference for the university’s voluntary greenhouse gas reduction plans, aiming to progressively lower carbon emissions.

To effectively manage greenhouse gas emissions, Cheng Shiu University initiated its first greenhouse gas inventory in 2022, following the ISO 14064-1:2018 standard. The inventory was conducted by a third-party assurance provider (PwC), ensuring the accuracy and credibility of the data. In the future, regular inventories and assurance activities will be carried out to continuously monitor the university’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Based on the 2022 inventory results, the university’s total greenhouse gas emissions amounted to 7,535.88 metric tons of CO2e. Notably, Category 2 emissions were the primary source, accounting for approximately 94.23% of the total emissions. The university is committed to finding methods to reduce these emissions, contributing more actively and sustainably to the environment and society.

Cheng Shiu University remains dedicated to taking action in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and actively promoting energy-saving and carbon reduction initiatives to achieve a more environmentally friendly and sustainable development.
