Cheng Shiu University’s USR project celebrated the Dragon Boat Festival by distributing zongzi to the underprivileged elderly in Lin Yuan.

On the eve of the Dragon Boat Festival, in order to show care for the underprivileged and elderly in the Lin Yuan community, President Kung Jui-Chang and Lin Yuan USR project leader, Dean Hsu Ching-Yun, led the team to visit the Lin Yuan Shengdi Temple and the community to warmly distribute zongzi (rice dumplings). The zongzi were handed out to the elderly in their homes by community volunteers, allowing them to experience the festive atmosphere and savor the delicious flavors in advance.

The event “Embracing Lin Yuan with Zongzi, Enjoying the Dragon Boat Festival – Sharing Love with Lin Yuan, Savoring Healthiness” was held at the Lin Yuan Shengdi Temple. President Kung Jui-Chang, along with the Dean of Academic Affairs, Kung Jui-Wei, and Dean of the College of Lifestyle and Creativity, Hsu Ching-Yun, visited the temple to pray for blessings. After the visit, they donated 800 zongzi prepared by the Department of Hospitality Management to the community, and volunteers distributed them to the underprivileged and elderly residents.

The team also visited the elderly who were attending classes at the community care center. President Kung Jui-Chang was deeply moved by their dedication to learning and commented on their lifelong pursuit of knowledge and health.

President Kung Jui-Chang is committed to building a health academy in the Gongcuo community. Apart from providing the elderly with a place for learning, it will also serve as a space for social interaction, promoting physical and mental well-being.

Regarding the zongzi-giving event during the Dragon Boat Festival, President Kung Jui-Chang stated that the main purpose was to create a warm atmosphere and let the recipients know that there are people in society who care for them.

Since the inception of the Dragon Boat Festival warmth-giving event in Gongcuo, Cheng Shiu University has invested more resources to assist in the development of rural areas and actively fulfilled its social responsibility. The Lin Yuan USR project team has been deeply involved in the Lin Yuan community for many years. Using the community as the site for project implementation, they have promoted “Eating with Peace of Mind, Silver Creating Health, and Sustaining Joy in Lin Yuan.” Over the past two years, they have established close relationships with local residents, including residents of Wenxian, Tantou, Dingcuo, Gongcuo, and the Love Association area, through dynamic and soft spiritual courses offered weekly. The project involves students and teachers in community practice and understanding, accompanying the elderly in their growth, and assisting in their development.

Lin Yuan USR project leader, Dean Hsu Ching-Yun, led the team to visit the Lin Yuan Wenxian community and the Shanwei Activity Center to distribute zongzi with warmth. Community volunteers assisted in delivering the zongzi to the homes of the elderly, allowing them to savor the delicious flavors.

The team members also utilized Heart Rate Variability Analysis (HRV) to conduct tests and analysis on the elderly. They then used essential oils and simple massages to help each person become skilled in providing care for the elderly at home, creating a warm and caring atmosphere throughout the community.
