Cheng Shiu University Wins TCSA Sustainability Report Gold Award for Outstanding Sustainability Performance

The 16th TCSA Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards, organized by the Taiwan Sustainable Energy Research Foundation, was held on November 15, 2023, at the Grand Hotel Taipei. This year, 526 organizations participated in the competition, up 24% from last year. Among them, Cheng Shiu University (CSU), which published its first sustainability report this year, was awarded the "TCSA Sustainability Report Award-University Group-Gold Award", demonstrating its outstanding sustainability performance.

CSU is committed to the practice of university social responsibility and has integrated sustainable development into its school management philosophy. With the vision of "Sustainable and Beautiful Life", the university has been working hard in the areas of teaching and research, industry-academia cooperation, sustainable talent cultivation, and low-carbon campus. In August 2023, CSU published its first sustainability report, which was compiled in accordance with the GRI Global Reporting Standards framework. The report covers sustainability performance data from four aspects: university governance, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and people (including their human rights). Through information disclosure, the report presents CSU's efforts and achievements in sustainable management to stakeholders and responds to sustainability issues of concern to stakeholders.

In terms of teaching innovation and talent cultivation, CSU is committed to cultivating students' diverse practical, innovative and entrepreneurial, and international mobility skills. The university also emphasizes the cultivation of humanistic qualities and the implementation of human rights education measures. It actively participates in international cooperation.

In terms of environmental sustainability, CSU has the only "Center for Environmental Toxicology and Emerging Pollutants" in Taiwan's higher education institutions. The university continues to invest in research on environmental sustainability and actively cooperates with the government's green procurement program. In procurement, it prioritizes the purchase of energy-efficient products. In response to global carbon reduction and net-zero action, CSU completed its 2022 greenhouse gas inventory for the first time this year.

In terms of social participation, CSU uses its abundant teaching and research resources and integrates all school resources to create a model of student and faculty social participation learning. The university has expanded its service objects from students to industries, communities, or more people.

CSU President Gong Ruichang said that winning the TCSA Sustainability Report Gold Award is a recognition of CSU's sustainability performance. In the future, CSU will continue to develop its school characteristics and focus on international sustainability trends. The university will use its university power to drive community development, enhance social impact, and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
