Leveraging funding from the 2024 Higher Education Sprout Project, Cheng Shiu University’s Department of Information Management successfully introduced AI program design courses to Xinwei Elementary School in Liugui District as part of the "Rural Industry Digital Applications – Enhancing IT Education in Rural Areas and Promoting Agricultural Products Marketing" initiative.
During the winter break, Professor Lin Zhe-Hong and his student team traveled to this remote area to engage the elementary students in the joys of technology. The camp activities included building robots, coding, and showcasing the robots' capabilities in a lively soccer competition.
In addition, the university students assisted Xinwei Elementary students in constructing buzzers for the robots, allowing them to produce sound, further enriching the technological experience. The camp also featured a robot soccer tournament and a solar-powered robot race.
The university students not only guided the elementary students in the installation of solar panels but also provided explanations of the principles behind solar photovoltaic technology.
Xinwei Elementary has long collaborated with Cheng Shiu University through the Digital Companion Program, and this year marked the first joint camp with the Department of Information Management.
Through the University Social Responsibility (USR) program, the camp successfully brought digital technology learning resources to this rural area, fostering interactive learning between university and elementary students, achieving mutual benefit and shared success.
