For the 15th consecutive year, Cheng Shiu University has been honored by the Chinese Institute of Engineers for its exceptional achievements in industry-academia collaboration. President Gong Rui-Zhang attended the ceremony to accept the award, noting that this recognition comes just as Cheng Shiu prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary. He emphasized that this distinction reflects the university’s strong connections with industry and its commitment to developing talent that meets real-world demands, giving its graduates a distinct competitive advantage.

At the 113th Annual Joint Conference and Engineer’s Day Celebration, held at Ruxi Hotel in Taipei, Cheng Shiu University was once again awarded for its excellence in fostering industry-academia partnerships. President Gong explained that the university has worked tirelessly to deepen its ties with regional industries, expanding both the breadth and depth of collaboration. These efforts have earned Cheng Shiu a strong reputation in the business community, continually enhancing its industry outcomes.

The university’s primary goal in promoting these partnerships, according to President Gong, is to "reduce the gap between education and industry." By integrating campus resources, introducing state-of-the-art equipment, and establishing nationally accredited laboratories, Cheng Shiu has become a leader in technology transfer and intellectual property management. The university has also created robust mechanisms to match faculty expertise with industry needs, all of which contribute to a thriving environment for industry-academia collaboration.

"Cheng Shiu University continues to maintain an enrollment of 16,000 students annually, ranking second among vocational institutions in Kaohsiung, just behind National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology," President Gong proudly noted. Through strong partnerships with government, industry, and academia, Cheng Shiu secured NT$900 million in the first phase of the Higher Education Sprout Project, followed by NT$240 million in the second phase for 2023, ranking first among private universities of technology. Over the next five years, more than NT$1 billion will be invested in upgrading academic and technical facilities. This year’s recognition by the Chinese Institute of Engineers further solidifies the university’s role as a leader in industry-academia collaboration, ensuring that graduates transition smoothly into the workforce.

Cheng Shiu University has also established several specialized centers that highlight its commitment to sustainability and innovation. The Environmental Toxicology and Emerging Contaminants Research Center integrates over 20 years of expertise in environmental testing with sustainable practices, providing valuable services. The Cultural Heritage Restoration Center utilizes the university’s engineering resources to train cross-disciplinary professionals and develop a regional system for cultural preservation. The Five-Axis Machining Talent Development Center serves as a hub for practical training, supporting national talent cultivation programs and offering courses that provide hands-on experience, further enhancing the university’s industry-academia collaboration initiatives.
