Cheng Shiu University Achieves New Milestone! Secures NT$240 Million Grant from the Higher Education Sprout Project

The Ministry of Education recently announced the results of the first phase of the second round of the Higher Education Sprout Project for the 2024 fiscal year, with Cheng Shiu University receiving NT$240 million—the highest grant awarded to a private technical and vocational institution. This recognition underscores the university’s exceptional academic performance and potential for future growth.

Launched by the Ministry of Education in 2018, the Higher Education Sprout Project aims to support universities in improving institutional development and boosting international competitiveness. The project operates on a five-year cycle and is Taiwan’s largest competitive funding initiative. The second round began in 2023, with the first phase covering the 2023-2024 period. Acting Director of Higher Education, Liang Xue-Zheng, stated that this year’s total funding reached NT$18.56 billion, an increase from the previous year.

In the funding allocations, National Taiwan University ranked first with NT$2.59 billion, followed by National Cheng Kung University with NT$1.47 billion. National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and National Tsing Hua University ranked third and fourth, receiving NT$1.36 billion and NT$1.26 billion, respectively. Among public technical and vocational institutions, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology topped the list with NT$430 million, followed by National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology with NT$400 million.

In the private university category, Taipei Medical University received NT$270 million, the highest among private institutions, followed by Chung Yuan Christian University and Feng Chia University, each securing approximately NT$150 million. Other well-known private universities, including Tunghai University, Tamkang University, and Fu Jen Catholic University, received between NT$100 million and NT$110 million. Cheng Shiu University stood out among private technical and vocational schools, receiving the highest grant of NT$240 million, showcasing its excellence in educational quality and growth potential.
