Post-Disaster Recovery Efforts at Cheng Shiu University: Prioritizing Safety and Resuming Campus Operations

In the face of increasingly severe climate change, the frequency and intensity of natural disasters have been rising, posing challenges to the operational continuity of educational institutions and student safety. As a committed institution of higher learning, Cheng Shiu University has established a robust framework for disaster preparedness, encompassing strategies for typhoons, earthquakes, floods, and other natural events.

Disaster Preparedness Protocols at Cheng Shiu University

Cheng Shiu University has developed the "Guidelines for Suspension of Operations During Natural Disasters" to ensure a rapid response during emergencies, aiming to minimize casualties and property losses. These guidelines provide detailed protocols for various scenarios, including class suspensions during typhoons, campus safety inspections, and post-disaster recovery and cleanup procedures.

Response to Typhoon Santur: Impact and Measures

The recent passage of Typhoon Santur caused substantial damage to Cheng Shiu University’s campus, including fallen trees, damage to building exteriors, and malfunctions in various campus facilities. In response, the university quickly mobilized relevant departments to undertake cleanup and restoration efforts. However, due to the extensive damage, certain facilities remain under repair.

Facility Inspection and Reporting Protocols

During the recovery phase, the university has urged faculty and students to assist in inspecting classrooms and other areas, and to report any issues through the departmental offices. If equipment such as digital lecterns, projectors, or air conditioning units is found to be malfunctioning, or if damage to classroom infrastructure is identified, class representatives should promptly notify the "Cheng Shiu Disaster Response Coordination Platform." The university will allocate resources for repairs to ensure that classrooms are restored for use as quickly as possible.

Guidelines for Post-Disaster Cleanup and Safety

Prior to the resumption of classes, the university encourages faculty and students to participate in the inspection and tidying of both indoor and outdoor environments. Any uncleared debris or broken glass should be addressed promptly, with cleaning supplies available on the first floor of each building. Caution should be taken when handling glass shards to prevent injury, ensuring a safe and thorough cleanup process.

Commitment to Restoration and Normalization of Operations

Despite the disruptions caused by Typhoon Santur, Cheng Shiu University is dedicated to the rapid repair of campus facilities and comprehensive safety checks, with the goal of resuming normal operations swiftly. The university extends its gratitude to all faculty and students for their cooperation and support during this time, and anticipates a swift return to normal campus activities through collective efforts.
