“Challenges and University Engagement in the Era of Net-Zero Sustainability” Forum Held at Cheng Shiu University to Inspire Green Talent Development

The forum titled “Challenges and University Engagement in the Era of Net-Zero Sustainability” was held today (April 16) at Cheng Shiu University, featuring Professor Hung Yao-Ming of National Dong Hwa University and Associate Professor Ho Hsin-Chia of National Taichung University of Science and Technology as keynote speakers. Their participation brought fresh momentum and inspiration to the university’s ongoing efforts in sustainable development and green talent cultivation.

Last year, the university signed a “Net-Zero Talent Development MOU” with the Kaohsiung City Government, joining 17 other universities in a regional alliance aimed at advancing sustainability and developing green workforce capacity. Building on this foundation, Cheng Shiu University partnered this year with the Kaohsiung Research, Development and Evaluation Commission to co-host the forum, with the goal of enhancing public awareness and practical engagement in environmental sustainability.

The two keynote speakers, Professor Hung and Associate Professor Ho, both emphasized the urgent need for action in addressing climate change. They noted that such forums play a vital role in raising public consciousness and mobilizing collective response, especially as the world prepares to celebrate Earth Day. They encouraged all participants to translate awareness into concrete action toward a low-carbon and sustainable future.

Vice President Dr. Yu Bu-Ping delivered the opening address, stating, “Today’s forum not only offers valuable insights for all attending faculty, students, and guests, but also deepens our understanding of net-zero sustainability and the university’s social responsibility (USR).” The successful organization of this event marks another important milestone in Cheng Shiu University’s commitment to sustainability and education for the common good.
