The Carbon Pricing Era Begins: Decarbonization as a Necessary Transition

As the world accelerates toward net-zero carbon goals, carbon pricing has become a key market-driving force. In 2023, the Kaohsiung City Government established the Net-Zero Academy to provide educational support for carbon reduction policies and the achievement of net-zero targets. In alignment with these efforts, Cheng Shiu University’s College of Health and Management, in partnership with the Kaohsiung Environmental Protection Bureau, launched the ISO 14068-1 Internal Auditor Certification Program on Carbon Neutrality—a critical step toward enabling carbon reduction and industrial transformation.

Cheng Shiu University and the Net-Zero Academy: Advancing Quality Education in Carbon Neutrality

With venue and resource support from the Net-Zero Academy, the training course featured expert instructors from both academia and industry. Among them was Mr. Chen-Wei Hsieh, General Manager of DNV Business Assurance Taiwan, who provided in-depth instruction on the knowledge framework of internal auditing for carbon neutrality. The three-day program combined theory with practical applications, equipping participants with a solid understanding of the technical requirements outlined in international carbon neutrality standards.

ISO 14068-1 Certification: A Professional Credential for Green-Collar Talent

Participants included master’s students from the Department of Business Administration at CSU, as well as full-time faculty members. Upon completing the course and passing a final assessment, all participants were awarded the ISO 14068-1 Internal Auditor Certification by DNV. This certificate not only affirms their professional competency but also signifies their readiness to implement and support corporate carbon neutrality strategies in practice.

Cultivating Green-Collar Talent: Cheng Shiu University’s Commitment to Net-Zero

Through its forward-looking educational approach, CSU’s College of Health and Management is taking the lead in nurturing green-collar professionals equipped with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills in sustainability. These individuals are expected to become key drivers of corporate decarbonization efforts, contributing to the realization of net-zero carbon emissions and long-term environmental sustainability. Their expertise will enhance the resilience and competitiveness of society in the face of future climate challenges.

Conclusion: A Joint Effort Toward a Net-Zero Future

This collaboration between Cheng Shiu University and the Kaohsiung Environmental Protection Bureau not only provided participants with a valuable international certification in the field of carbon neutrality but also exemplified the impact of industry-academia cooperation in driving sustainable development. As carbon pricing becomes more prevalent and environmental challenges intensify, these green-collar talents will serve as vital forces leading society toward a net-zero future.
