“Who the Hell Knows How to Prevent HIV?” Series: A Comprehensive Experience in Sexual Health, Gender Diversity, and Safety Education

To promote sexual health, HIV prevention, and gender diversity awareness, Cheng Shiu University joined forces with the Taiwan Love and Hope Association and the Sunshine Queer Center to create an interactive, educational, and engaging campus event. Held on November 19, 2024, in front of the Humanities Building, the uniquely themed event titled “Who the Hell Knows How to Prevent HIV?” brought a fresh wave of health, inclusivity, and safety to the campus through games, hands-on experiences, and live advocacy.

Sexual Health: From Knowledge to Action

The “Sexual Health Tic-Tac-Toe” challenge was the first stop for many participants. Through a gamified quiz format, students and faculty answered questions related to safe sex practices, contraceptive methods, and STI prevention. The activity not only raised awareness but also emphasized the importance of protecting both oneself and others through informed, responsible choices.

Gender Diversity: Embracing Difference and Breaking Stereotypes

The “Drag Queen Photo Booth” offered a lighthearted yet powerful way to explore gender expression and diverse identities. By interacting and taking photos with drag performers, participants had the opportunity to challenge traditional gender norms and deepen their understanding of gender inclusivity in a joyful and supportive environment.

HIV Prevention: Testing and Education Go Hand-in-Hand

The “On-Site HIV Testing Station” provided confidential and immediate screening services, helping attendees gain awareness of their health status in a safe setting. Alongside this, informative sessions explained HIV transmission routes, prevention strategies, and the value of regular testing. The initiative aimed to dispel misconceptions and promote open, stigma-free conversations about HIV.

Off-Campus Housing Safety: Protecting Student Living Environments

The event also included a booth on rental safety education, offering students vital information on legal rights, tenant responsibilities, and safety tips for off-campus housing. The goal was to reduce risks and promote safe and secure living conditions for students.

Anti-Drug Awareness: Choosing a Healthier Path

The anti-drug education booth reminded participants to stay away from the temptations of drug use. Through interactive games and real-life stories, the booth provided insights into the dangers of substance abuse and strategies for prevention, encouraging students to cultivate healthy lifestyle habits.

Cheng Shiu University remains committed to creating an inclusive and health-conscious campus, fostering a safe space where students are empowered with knowledge, respect, and the confidence to make informed life choices.
