AI Applications and Overseas Professional Training to Enhance Teachers' Instructional Competence.
Teaching Innovation Through Faculty Development Workshops: Enhancing Instructional Competence with AI and Global Perspectives
As the new academic semester approaches, Cheng Shiu University organized a "Faculty Teaching Competency Workshop" to help educators master the latest teaching strategies and technological applications. This workshop focused on two main themes: “Instructional Strategies in the Age of AI” and “Insights from Overseas Professional Development”, aimed at improving classroom interaction and teaching quality.
Integrating AI in the Classroom: How Technology is Transforming Teaching
In an era of rapid AI advancement, integrating artificial intelligence into teaching has become a key challenge and opportunity. The workshop featured Professor Lin Hao-Chiang from the Department of E-Learning Technology at National University of Tainan, who delivered a keynote speech on “Instructional Techniques in the AI Era.” He emphasized that AI can now generate text, illustrations, storybooks, and even videos—offering educators powerful new tools to enrich their lessons.
For instance, with just a text prompt, AI can produce surreal visuals that significantly enhance students’ engagement and comprehension. These technologies not only make lessons more dynamic and interactive but also help students better understand abstract concepts. AI-generated stories and animations provide diverse, on-demand teaching resources, contributing to more effective and immersive learning experiences.
Overseas Training: Broadening Global Teaching Perspectives
In addition to AI integration, the workshop also emphasized internationalization. Professor Huang Pei-Wen (Department of Business Administration) and Professor Lee Chia-En (Department of Information Management) shared their experiences from overseas professional development programs. During their academic exchanges abroad, they observed how international educators use diverse activities to foster more engaging classroom environments. These insights have since been applied at Cheng Shiu University to enhance teaching approaches.
Overseas training allows faculty to explore various global teaching models, thereby improving student learning outcomes and promoting internationalized education practices. Such cross-cultural learning opportunities also inspire curriculum innovation and institutional development.
Advancing Teaching Quality with Technology and Global Vision
This teaching competency workshop not only demonstrated the educational potential of AI but also empowered faculty with fresh pedagogical inspiration through international experience sharing. Moving forward, Cheng Shiu University will continue to promote the integration of technology in teaching and expand global education exchanges, helping both faculty and students stay competitive in an increasingly globalized world.
