Cheng Shiu University USR Projects Win Nine Awards, Securing Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards Recognition for the Fourth Consecutive Year

Cheng Shiu University Wins Nine Awards at TSAA and Taipei Golden Eagle Microfilm Festival, Recognized for Four Consecutive Years
The 5th TSAA Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards (TSAA) and the 9th Taipei Golden Eagle Microfilm Festival, organized by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), were held on September 11–12 at the Taipei World Trade Center. Representing Cheng Shiu University, Vice President Dr. Jui-Wei Kung attended the award ceremony. With its outstanding USR (University Social Responsibility) achievements, Cheng Shiu University stood out among the participants, winning nine awards in total. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the University has been recognized at the TSAA, demonstrating its strong commitment to local revitalization and sustainability education.
At the TSAA, the University was honored with four awards for its USR projects:

“Spoonbills: Return” – SDG 4 Gold Award
Through the long-term Spoonbill Youth Task Force in the Chi-Mei East 9 region, 56 students have been trained in civic engagement and social responsibility. Professor Tsung-Jen Wu, Chair of the Department of Early Childhood Care and Education, emphasized that beyond classroom learning, students engage in community service, nurturing empathy for disadvantaged groups—an essential mission of higher education. -
“Technology-Driven Cultural Preservation for a Sustainable Future” – SDG 4 Silver Award
Led by the University’s Cultural Heritage Conservation Research Center in collaboration with professional conservators, this project advanced cultural education on campus and in the community. It partnered with the Neiwei Arts Center and the Laiyi Indigenous Museum in Pingtung. Director Yi-Cheng Lee noted that the center will continue to cultivate talent, foster international exchange, and promote sustainable cultural heritage preservation. -
“Revitalizing Sinpi: Sustainable Value-Added Development” – SDG 12 Silver Award
The Department of Hospitality Management assisted Sinpi Township in developing local specialty products, such as phoenix cakes and fruit madeleines. Project leader Prof. Hsin-Hung Chen highlighted that the award recognizes the team’s efforts in agricultural value-addition, cultural revitalization, and youth return, reflecting resilience and hope within the community. -
“Encounter: Chi-Yu” – SDG 4 Bronze Award
Integrating Qijin’s marine resources with immigrant food culture, the Department of Hospitality Management promoted collaborative learning through fish sauce brewing, cultural writing, and community markets. Project leader Prof. Pao-Hsi Wang stated that this award affirms the team’s dedication to educational equity and multicultural inclusion while supporting new immigrant families and their children.
In the Taipei Golden Eagle Microfilm Festival, Cheng Shiu University also excelled with remarkable achievements. The film “Opening the Path to Sinpi Revitalization” won both the Platinum Award and the Jury’s Special Award. Additionally, three other films received one Silver and two Bronze Awards: “Echoes from Linyuan”, “The Story of Little Jin”, and “CSU Dream-Building Social Service Project.”
President Jui-Chang Kung remarked that these honors not only affirm the University’s continuous efforts in USR initiatives but also highlight its core values in sustainability, local revitalization, and social impact. He expressed hope that CSU teams will continue to inspire faculty and students, advancing the vision of “Building a Sustainable Campus and Creating Better Communities Together.”
