From Helping to Accompanying: Two International Student Mentors at Cheng Shiu University Recognized Again for Outstanding Performance

Cheng Shiu University’s Overseas Student Industry Program Achieves Another Milestone: Two CSU Mentors Honored with the “2025 Overseas Community Affairs Council Outstanding Overseas Student Support Staff Award”
Cheng Shiu University (CSU) continues to excel in overseas student support. Ms. Tseng Chun-Yi and Officer Wang Chi-Shuo from the Overseas Student Program Office have been awarded the 2025 Outstanding Overseas Student Support Staff Award by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), marking another major achievement in CSU’s efforts to enhance international student services and overseas Chinese student education.
Both staff members have long devoted themselves to supporting students in internships, academic assistance, daily living needs, and emergency response. Their dedication has earned deep trust from students, becoming reliable anchors for many overseas Chinese learners pursuing their studies in Taiwan.
Wholehearted Support, All Year Round:
Guiding Overseas Students Beyond the Classroom**
Students in the Overseas Student Program often face multiple challenges, including language barriers, cultural differences, lifestyle adjustments, and unfamiliar learning environments.
Despite handling daily administrative tasks, Ms. Tseng and Officer Wang frequently assist students during weekends and late evenings—whether coordinating internship arrangements, offering academic tutoring, or responding to unexpected emergencies.
One student shared, “They are like family to us. Whenever something happens, they are the first people we think of.”
This trust stands as the strongest testament to the years of dedicated mentoring provided by both educators.
A Growing Record of Excellence:
Eight CSU Recipients Recognized to Date**
Since the establishment of CSU’s Overseas Student Program Office, the university has built a comprehensive support system emphasizing not only academic guidance but also local living, cultural adaptation, and career development.
To date, eight CSU faculty and staff members have received the OCAC Outstanding Overseas Student Support Staff Award, underscoring the university’s long-term commitment to creating a friendly and inclusive campus environment for international and overseas Chinese students.
OCAC’s continued recognition serves as strong encouragement for the team, motivating them to provide even warmer, more timely, and more precise support for students.
Beyond Administration:
The Overseas Student Office as Cultural, Academic, and Emotional Support**
The Overseas Student Program Office is more than an administrative hub—it is an essential companion in students’ daily lives in Taiwan:
-
Daily Living Support: Housing issues, medical needs, and emergency assistance
-
Academic Assistance: Coursework guidance, language support, and coordination with academic departments
-
Internship & Career Counseling: Matching industry internship opportunities and facilitating cross-cultural workplace communication
-
Emotional Care: Providing a dependable presence for students far from home
These efforts rarely appear on a grand stage, yet they quietly shape students’ learning and living experiences every day.
With Passion and Dedication, CSU Continues to Strengthen Its Overseas Student Support System
Looking ahead, CSU’s Overseas Student Program Office will continue upholding its core mission of accompaniment, support, and professionalism. The office aims to enhance cross-cultural adaptation mechanisms, expand living support networks, and strengthen industry internship collaborations, ensuring that overseas students at CSU can study with peace of mind, live with confidence, and step toward a future full of possibilities.
