Cheng Shiu University’s educational performance has been consistently recognized, receiving a subsidy of 243 million NTD in the 112th Higher Education Deep Cultivation Program, the highest among private universities of science and technology.

 

The Ministry of Education has been promoting the “Higher Education Enhancement Project” in Taiwan, which has entered its second phase this year. Positive response and dedication to excellence in education have earned Cheng Shiu University high praise from the Ministry of Education. As a result, the university has been granted funding for both Part I and Part II of the Higher Education Enhancement Project, receiving a total of NT$243 million in subsidies. This funding amount ranks Cheng Shiu University as the top private technical and vocational university and fourth among all public and private technical and vocational universities nationwide.

Recently (on the 17th), the Ministry of Education announced the results of the “Second Phase of the Higher Education Enhancement Project” review. Among the funded projects in the “Part II: Global Taiwan Research Centers” category, Cheng Shiu University’s “Center for Environmental Toxins and Emerging Pollutants Research” and “Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Preservation and Restoration New Technology Development Center” (formerly known as the Center for Cultural Heritage Restoration) stood out among numerous public and private universities. Cheng Shiu University was the only private technical university to have two “International-level Characteristic Research Centers” listed, making the university’s achievement truly remarkable.

Since 2018 (the 107th academic year), Cheng Shiu University has continuously received funding from the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Enhancement Project for five consecutive years. Each year, the university has not only achieved steady growth but also surpassed annual targets, demonstrating the university’s dedication to implementing its plans effectively. This recognition from the Ministry of Education reinforces the university’s commitment to continue focusing on the challenges faced by higher education, concentrating on the teaching environment, and aiming to enhance teaching quality and promote the university’s distinctive development based on the foundation of the first phase of the Higher Education Enhancement Project, the government’s talent development program, and industry-academia cooperation initiatives.

The Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Enhancement Project is the main source of university funding. The second five-year plan, from the 112th academic year to the 116th academic year, has a total budget of NT$97 billion, an increase of NT$13.2 billion compared to the first phase.

Among private technical universities, Cheng Shiu University received the highest funding of NT$243 million, followed by Nantai University of Science and Technology with NT$186 million, Kun Shan University with NT$185 million, Longhua University with NT$148 million, and Ming Chi University of Technology with NT$110 million.

President Gong Rui Zhang emphasized that Cheng Shiu University’s educational performance has been highly recognized by the Ministry of Education, and the university has been receiving substantial funding every year while achieving steady growth and surpassing annual targets. This clearly illustrates the university’s dedication to its educational mission, effective implementation of plans, and outstanding performance. With abundant financial resources, the university consistently updates learning equipment and practical training sites, promotes faculty and student research and development, and cultivates high-quality talents for enterprises.

President Gong stated that the university will continue to focus on the challenges faced by higher education, concentrate on the teaching environment, and aim to enhance teaching quality and promote the university’s distinctive development based on the foundation of the first phase of the Higher Education Enhancement Project, the government’s talent development program, and industry-academia cooperation initiatives.

Cheng Shiu University hopes to leverage its background and resources in the College of Engineering to cultivate international-level professionals for the government and its regulated industries through the “Center for Environmental Toxins and Emerging Pollutants Research.” Additionally, the “Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Preservation and Restoration New Technology Development Center” is pioneering the application of technology in cultural heritage restoration and preservation, establishing Taiwan’s leading position in the Asia-Pacific region for cultural heritage preservation. Through collaboration with Taiwan’s cultural heritage industry, the center aims to achieve international recognition and create a win-win situation.
