In the “2023 APSAA Asia-Pacific and Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards,” Cheng Shiu University received three prestigious awards, including the Gold Award and two Silver Awards in the TSAA “Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards.” The awards were accepted by Dr. Gong Rui-Wei, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Director of the Office of Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development.

The “2023 APSAA Asia-Pacific and Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards” are organized by the TCSA Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards Executive Committee, in response to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), recognizing contributions made by various sectors in promoting sustainability in the areas of environment, society, and economy. Cheng Shiu University has not only been recognized with the Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards for two consecutive years but also achieved the SDG 10 Gold Award, SDG3 Silver Award, and SDG4 Silver Award this year, showcasing the university’s commitment to advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The SDG 10 Gold Award was granted to the “New Immigrant Catering Soaring Project,” led by the team of Director Wang Bao-Xi from the Department of Culinary Arts. The team’s primary objective is to reduce inequalities, as per SDG 10, by assisting new immigrant groups in Taiwan to establish families and integrating university and industry expertise to cultivate their culinary skills and management knowledge. Over the past three years, the team has successfully provided training for the Level C Chinese Cuisine Certificate to 52 new immigrants, empowering them to pursue careers and excel in the culinary entrepreneurship field in Taiwan.

The SDG3 Silver Award was awarded to the team “Sustainability. Shared Prosperity Xinlinyuan” from the College of Life Creativity, led by Dean Hsu Ching-Yun. This team centers its efforts on SDG 3, “Good Health and Well-being,” by implementing projects in the Lin-Yuan District of Kaohsiung City. Through university-level social responsibility courses, students’ awareness of social issues is raised, and practical implementation in the community is integrated, creating opportunities for sustainable development of local talents. This project not only raises students’ awareness of social issues but also contributes to the sustainable development of the local community. Through such initiatives, this team has made outstanding contributions to achieving the goal of good health and well-being.

The SDG4 Silver Award was presented to the team “Qibi Jumping Study Kung Fu,” led by Director Wu Zong-Ren from the Department of Early Childhood Care and Education. This team’s core focus is on SDG4, “Quality Education,” and its commitment lies in cultivating local talents. Their strategies include deepening the “Egret Youth Work Team” expertise, promoting the concept of youths returning to their hometowns in high schools and vocational schools, and providing social service platforms through the non-profit “Er-Jiu Agricultural Society,” creating community micro-economics and giving back to the community by providing care services for vulnerable populations.

President Gong Rui-Zhang of Cheng Shiu University Tech expressed his pride in once again winning the Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards, this time with the honors of the SDG 10 Gold Award, SDG3 Silver Award, and SDG4 Silver Award. This recognition not only acknowledges the university’s efforts in promoting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals but also highlights Cheng Shiu University’s contributions in the fields of social responsibility and sustainable development.
