Record 468 International Freshmen Establish CSU as a Hub for Sustainable Global Talent Development

Cheng Shiu University (CSU) welcomed a record 468 freshmen to its Industry–Academia Collaboration Programs for Overseas Compatriot Students in the 2026–2027 academic year. The students come from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, demonstrating CSU’s achievements in international education, industry collaboration, global talent development, and sustainability.
The orientation program began on August 3. President Kung Jui-Chang, department chairs, academic advisors, and administrative staff welcomed the students through orientation sessions, campus tours, and faculty–student exchanges to support their transition to university life.
A Supportive Campus for International Students
President Kung noted that students studying far from home require comprehensive care and support. CSU provides academic resources, student services, and administrative assistance to ensure a safe and positive learning experience.
The freshmen are graduates of five partner vocational high schools under the Overseas Community Affairs Council’s 3+4 Industry–Academia Collaboration Program. They are encouraged to strengthen their professional skills, intercultural communication, and global perspectives for future careers.
Through inclusive campus policies, academic support, and life counseling, CSU helps international students integrate into campus life while promoting educational equity and intercultural learning.
Industry Collaboration for Career-Ready Talent
The programs comprise 11 classes across six departments: Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Management, and Food and Beverage Management.
Guided by its learning-by-doing philosophy, CSU partners with over 400 companies in smart technology, precision manufacturing, hospitality, and related industries. Internships, professional training, and workplace practice connect classroom learning with industry needs.
This model enables students to gain practical experience before graduation, strengthens employability, and supports corporate talent development, creating shared value for education, industry, and society.
Comprehensive Orientation and Student Support
During orientation, Associate Vice President for Research and Development Kuo Hsin-Yi introduced campus services, student regulations, and academic systems. The program also helped students from seven countries build friendships, understand the program structure, and become familiar with campus resources.
Department chairs and academic advisors subsequently conducted advising sessions and student activities, establishing strong faculty–student relationships for the four-year learning journey.
Pursuing Global Opportunities through Professional Skills
Chien Tsuan-Pao, a first-year Computer Science and Information Engineering student from Myanmar, hopes to balance study and work while improving his English and technical skills.
Food and Beverage Management freshman Huang Li-Chin aims to strengthen her Chinese proficiency and professional competencies, complete her degree, and enhance her career prospects.
CSU will continue connecting young people worldwide through education and cultivating professionals with technical expertise, global perspectives, and sustainability literacy. In partnership with industry, the University seeks to address global talent needs and contribute to regional development and global sustainability.
