AI Innovation Advances Sustainability: CSU’s Green Idea International Competition Attracts 191 Entries from Eight Countries

Co-hosted by Cheng Shiu University (CSU) and the International Innovation and Inventor Association, the 8th Green Idea International Invention and Design Competition was held at CSU on July 24–25. The event attracted 191 teams from Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia, showcasing Asia’s innovation and design capabilities.
The competition comprised 149 teams in the adult invention category, 21 in the youth invention category, and 21 in the design category. Entries covered AI, smart manufacturing, digital healthcare, green energy, net-zero solutions, the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, automation, smart agriculture, the circular economy, and environmental sustainability, reflecting global digital transformation and ESG trends.
CSU Vice President Huang Po-Wen noted that, after eight years of development, the competition has become an important Asian platform for international innovation. It enables young innovators to present their achievements while promoting cross-border exchange, collaboration, and technology sharing.
International Innovation and Inventor Association Chairman Yang Cheng-Fu emphasized that interdisciplinary integration and international cooperation are essential amid the rapid advancement of AI, smart technologies, and sustainability.
AI-related entries increased significantly this year, with applications spanning generative AI, image recognition, intelligent inspection, autonomous control, and decision-support systems. These projects demonstrated participants’ ability to apply AI in industrial and everyday settings.
The Grand Jury Award carried a cash prize of NT$100,000. Additional honors included Titanium, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and International Special Awards, encouraging the commercialization, industrialization, and international expansion of innovative technologies.
The Grand Jury Award went to a team led by Fu Yu-Hsiang, Deputy Director of Pharmacy at Taoyuan General Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare, for its interdisciplinary smart medication safety and sustainable care platform for older adults.
Fu explained that safely reducing medication among older patients requires collaboration among pharmacists, physical therapists, dietitians, and nurses. By integrating rehabilitation, dietary guidance, and continuous care, the platform supports gradual medication reduction and improved patient safety.
The project successfully translated smart learning into clinical practice. The team will continue improving the platform to advance smart healthcare, medication safety, and sustainable care for older adults.
